As always when we get to rate US microbrews our ratings tend to get pretty "bumpy" (like 0-5-0-5...), due to the challenging character of these brews. This time however most of them got decent ratings. The winner of the night was Humboldt Brewings wonderfully hoppy Red Nectar Ale at 3.83, followed by a total surprise for me. Since my earlier acquaintances with strong Polish lager been less exciting, I was stunned by the excellent bock Hevelius Super Premium (3.67), and also the really strong Kaper Krolewski (3.17). Another of Humboldt's brews, the Winter Nectar finished at third position of the evening at 3.50, right before an excellent Swedish microbrewed ale: Jämtlands Pilgrim. Also Aviator Porter, Anchor OSA 1996 and Wassail was very much to the groups liking.
The Long Shot Hazelnut Brown was one of the weirdest beers anyone of us ever tried. Liquid cookie. Some of us enjoyed it very much, while others couldn't stand it.
For me parsonally however, the superior highlight of the evening was the outstanding Bigfoot. So hoppy, but yet so balanced. I rate this one as my all time favourite. Still some of us found it far too challenging.
