Estonian beers

Of the beers rated this night one of the classic English barley wines, the complex fruity Fuller's Golden Pride stole the prize. Another superb beer was Sillamäe München Hele Õlu from the small microbrewery Sillamäe Õlletehas. This beer comes in beautiful 3l bottles with metal handles, is unfiltered and unpasteurized. When tasted fresh it is one of the best lager I personally have tried, sadly the when the OMH bunch got around to taste it, it was a bit too old and not made justice here.

The Sillamäe was bought at Õlletorn, which is probably the pub with the best assortment of beers in Tallinn, as it keeps almost all Estonian beers, as well as quite a few foreign ones. The service is excellent and the staff very friendly, and we owe them a great "thanks" for letting us try the outstanding dark Sillamäe for free. We ate at Olde Hansa, a medieval restaurant in Tallin's old town, which brews theri own beer, a sweetish rounded honey beer, and a bittersweet herb spiced beer. In Helsinki we went to Suomenlinnan Panimo a brewpub on a small beautiful park island a short boat trip from central Helsinki. They served a stout, a nice smooth Irish style ale, and a blond ale.
