Australia had long been severely underrepresented at OMH, but thanks to
duff we were able
to sample some of the great beers from down under. As if this weren't enough we also have
jca_lbi to thank for a big number of
outstanding US microbrews. Furthermore we'd like to thank Yuusuf Faarax for the Ethiopian
beer, and Mats Åberg for the Fijian beer. Thanks guys!!
With this lot of good beer the winner was surprising. No, not so surprising that the Fijian beers won. No brew from Carlton Fiji will ever win anything, I'm sure... Instead the winner was on of jca_lbi's home brews. You wanted improvement suggestions? Here's one: Open a brewery and start selling this potent complex beer in massive amounts! The Australian beers came in all styles. The hoppy, clean and quaffable Little Creatures Pale Ale scored the highest, but was closely followed by the malty Scottish style Grand Ridge Moonshine, the fruity/malty Burragorang Bock Beer and the clean, refreshing, true to style James Squire Original Pilsener. We had a whole bunch of nice specialty beers from Stoudts, all of the delicious. Of those the super malty Scotch Style Ale was judged the winner, just ahead of the complex Abbey Double. | |||||||||||
