As a result of travelling and trades we had access to a lot of good beers during th espring of 2004.
We'd like to thank hopsrus, Bov, rauchbier, Mark, duff, Sandro Regusci and many others for sharing their beers.
Björn had once again fetched beers from Britain, France and Belgium. Among them we found many interesting beers, such as the three Paeleman beers, of which the grape variety Uitzet Druiven scord the highest. There's also the little brewery L'Audomaroise who uses strange things to spice their beers with, such as rhubarb and chicory... Our official beer #6000 was the maginificent Deus, a powerful, fruity ale, brewed to match and treated as champagne. We had a first glance on the unknown Brazilian micro-scene. The most interesting beers are probably from Sudbrack, brewers of the well crafted mostly German style Eisenbahn beers, and the more powerful beers from Baden Baden. The top scoring Brazilian beer was Baden Baden Red Ale Especial, a full bodied strong ale. We also had an unusual, woody and almondy barley wine from Brazil: Schmitt Barleywine. There might be a lot of breweries in China, but there aren't that much good beer. Tsingtao Dark Beer is an exception. This might be hard to believe if you've had any of the dozens of Tsingtao varities, but their dark is a credible schwarzbier. Of the beers received through trades there was many highlights. The most shining of them was clearly J.W. Lees Harvest Ale 2002 with a malt character surpassing anything I've ever had. This outstanding barley wine went straight into 4th place! Many big American beers found a place near our hearts. The highest score of them was given to Fish Tale Anniversary Ale 10 Squared, a monster of a hop monster from the west coast. Among the traded Belgians Gouden Carolus Cuvee van de Keizer 2001 was the elite beer. A huge, malty beer with a lot of character. Also the best scoring Australian beer was a monster of a beer. Grand Ridge Supershine is not only packed with flavour. It is also packed with 11.0% alcohol... Finally a word of warning. If you ever hear of the Chinese beverage Milk Beer, run as fast as you can and don't look back. Kefir Milk Beer is probably the most disgusting thing I've ever put in my mouth...
